Unprecedented Rainfall Devastates Dubai
Flash Floods Turn Roads into Rivers, Inundate Homes
Torrential Rains Leave Vehicles Stranded, Businesses Underwater
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Unprecedented rainfall, equivalent to a year's worth of precipitation, has ravaged Dubai on Tuesday, transforming roads into raging rivers and submerging homes and businesses in flash floods.
The deluge left major highways impassable, with vehicles abandoned and commuters stranded. The tarmac at the city's international airport was also flooded, diverting arriving flights to neighboring airports.
According to the Dubai Municipality, over 120mm of rain fell within a matter of hours, with more expected in the coming days. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued warnings of potential mudslides and additional flooding.
Emergency services are currently responding to numerous calls for assistance, evacuating residents from flooded areas and providing support to those affected.
The torrential rainfall has also caused power outages and disruptions to transportation and communication networks. Schools across the United Arab Emirates have been closed as officials assess the damage and prioritize the safety of students.
Meteorologists attribute the extreme weather event to a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea, which has brought an abundance of moisture to the region. Climate experts warn that such events may become more frequent and intense in the future due to the effects of global climate change.
