Kino Arsenal to Relocate in 2026

Longtime Film Institution to Move from Filmhaus to Silent Green Kulturquartier

After 56 years in operation, Kino Arsenal will close its doors in the historic Filmhaus am Potsdamer Platz at the end of 2024. In 2026, the beloved cinema will reopen its doors in a new location, the Westhalle of the Silent Green Kulturquartier in Berlin's trendy Friedrichshain district.

Founded in 1970, Kino Arsenal has established itself as one of Berlin's most iconic cultural institutions. Known for its extensive film archive and diverse programming, the cinema has been a vital platform for independent filmmaking and international cinema. The decision to relocate was made in order to accommodate the institution's growing needs and to ensure its continued success in the years to come.

The new location in Silent Green Kulturquartier offers Kino Arsenal a unique opportunity to expand its activities and create a vibrant hub for cinema lovers. The spacious and modern Westhalle will provide the institution with a state-of-the-art screening room, exhibition spaces, and a dedicated archive. The move will also allow Kino Arsenal to strengthen its ties with other cultural institutions in the area, such as the Volksbühne and the Hebbel am Ufer theater.

Despite the relocation, Kino Arsenal remains committed to its mission of promoting independent cinema and fostering a community of cinephiles. The institution will continue to host a wide range of screenings, workshops, and special events, showcasing both established and emerging filmmakers from around the world.

The move to Silent Green Kulturquartier marks an exciting new chapter in Kino Arsenal's history. With its expanded facilities and central location, the institution is poised to continue its legacy as a vibrant and indispensable part of Berlin's cultural landscape.
